Wedding Singer at Lyrath Estate Kilkenny

Everything couples need to know about live music at Lyrath Estate Hotel — ceremony rooms, reception spaces, acoustics, and how to get it right.

Lyrath Estate Hotel is one of Kilkenny's most prestigious wedding venues — and one of my favourite places to perform. Set in 170 acres of parkland just outside Kilkenny city, Lyrath has everything: stunning ceremony rooms, a grand ballroom, beautiful grounds for photographs, and an events team who really know what they're doing with live music.

If you're getting married at Lyrath and thinking about booking a live singer, this guide covers everything — the rooms, the acoustics, the logistics, and what to think about when planning your music for the day.

The Venue: What Makes Lyrath Special

Lyrath Estate is a four-star country house hotel that sits in a genuinely beautiful setting. The main building is an elegant Georgian manor, and the wedding facilities have been carefully designed to complement the historic surroundings rather than fight against them.

The venue hosts a high volume of weddings — which means the events team are experienced, professional, and genuinely good at making the day run smoothly. From a performer's perspective, that makes a huge difference. Sound checks are straightforward, the timings are respected, and the staff communicate clearly throughout the day.

Ceremony Rooms at Lyrath

Lyrath has dedicated ceremony spaces that work beautifully for live acoustic music. The intimate ceremony room suits a stripped-back acoustic performance — just voice and guitar — where every note carries. For larger ceremonies, the main function spaces open up and the sound fills the room naturally.

Tip for couples

For the ceremony at Lyrath, an acoustic performance without backing tracks works particularly well. The natural reverb in the ceremony rooms gives the voice a warmth that a backing track can sometimes flatten. Ask your singer to do a quick sound check in the actual ceremony space before guests arrive.

The three key ceremony moments — the walk down the aisle, the signing of the register, and the recessional — all land particularly well at Lyrath. The proportions of the room mean the music is present without being overwhelming, and there's enough space for a PA system setup without it feeling crowded.

The Reception Ballroom & Evening Entertainment

Lyrath's main reception rooms are large and well-suited for full evening entertainment. The ballroom in particular has good acoustics for live performance — high ceilings that give the sound space to breathe, and enough depth in the room that the PA doesn't need to be pushed too hard.

For the evening reception, sets of 1.5 to 2 hours work well at Lyrath. The venue's events team are used to working around a live performance timeline and will typically confirm timings for the first dance, the dinner service, and the evening set well in advance.

Day Two at Lyrath

Lyrath is one of the best venues in Kilkenny for a Day Two gathering. The grounds, the bar areas, and the outdoor spaces make for a relaxed, beautiful setting the morning and afternoon after the wedding. A live singer for a few hours during a Day Two BBQ or casual gathering adds real warmth to what can sometimes feel like an afterthought of a day.

Day Two sets at Lyrath tend to be 1 to 1.5 hours — upbeat, crowd-singalong heavy, and perfectly pitched to the relaxed atmosphere of the day after.
